Hybrid Solutions
Joined up thinking
A hybrid tapered insulation solution utilises a combination of different insulant types to achieve either a performance and/or commercial advantage. Seeking advice from a specific insulation manufacturer will result in a biased solution being proposed. No one insulation type excels in all areas of performance, an impartial point of view will achieve optimum end results.
Utilising a hybrid solution can optimise key requirements as noted below:
- Flexibility of Fall
- Acoustic requirements
- Fire Performance
- Increased Thermal Performance
- Increased point loading resistance
- Cost Effective
Common combination examples would be as below,
with some advantages noted:
Stonewool
- Improved acoustic performance v PIR only
- Increased spread of load v Stonewool only
- Reduced weight added to structure v Stonewool only
- Improved thermal performance v Stonewool only
- Increased fire performance v PIR only
EPS AND PIR
- Improved flexibility of fall v PIR only (EPS can be cut to any required fall)
- Reduced bonding area v site bonded PIR system
- Reduced cost v PIR only
- Flexibility in thickness to the nearest millimetre
